Allegany is an unincorporated community that's found in Coos County. It's been described as an undiscovered gem, an out of the way destination, and a community that's ideal for those who want peace, quiet, and a less hectic pace of living. 

The origins of Allegany are disputed, although there's evidence that the community was established enough by 1893 to merit the establishment of a post office. 

One of the highlights of the community is the Golden and Silver Falls State Natural Area, located northeast of Allegany. The area is managed as a state park, and offers opportunities like camping and fish. For those who love hiking and spending time in nature, there are two hundred-foot waterfalls found within the park, 

The community is also home to an annual event, the Allegany Flea Market. Typically held in August of each year, the Flea Market attracts sellers from throughout the state. Along with things to purchase, there are also food vendors and entertainment offered.  Attendees often make a day of it when attending the event.
