How We Helped an Oregon Driver Recover $27,000 More on His Total Loss Settlement
On May 8, 2025, we were contacted by a client in Eagle Point, Oregon, after his insurance company offered just $60,233 for his 2002 Dodge Viper GTS-ACR following an accident. He knew something wasn’t right—and he was correct.
We traveled to Eugene to personally inspect the damaged vehicle and completed a prior-to-loss value appraisal. Our certified report valued his Viper at $89,750.
After negotiating with the insurance company’s appraiser, we secured a final settlement of $89,509—that’s $27,094 more than the original offer, an increase of nearly 23%. Needless to say, our client was thrilled with the outcome and finally received the fair value his Viper deserved.
Know Your Rights in Oregon
If you’ve been in a car accident and your vehicle is declared a total loss, you have 2 years from the date of the accident to file your claim (with a few exceptions). If you disagree with the insurance company’s offer, you can invoke your Right to an Appraisal.
⚠️ Important:
- Do not cash the insurance company’s check if you plan to dispute the settlement.
- Hire an independent appraiser right away. Waiting too long could be considered a waiver of your rights.
- Under Oregon law, if the final appraised value is higher than the insurance company’s last offer, the insurer must reimburse you for your reasonable appraisal costs (source: oregon.gov)
If your car was damaged but not totaled—and you were not at fault—your settlement should also include diminished value. This is the loss in market value your car suffers even after repairs. Diminished value can amount to thousands of dollars. In Oregon, you have 6 years to dispute a diminished value claim.
At Appraiser Guys, we’ve helped thousands of people across Oregon and Northern California fight for fair settlements on both total loss and diminished value cases. We offer a free review of your settlement offer and will tell you if you’re leaving money on the table.
